IT Junior Developer

Job Summary

The Junior Developer collaborates with others in the team to develop and maintain the Guidewire platform that meets business needs. Responsible for software design and development for simple business solutions for the Guidewire implementation and maintenance-related activities. Analyze and code under the guidance of a Developer or a Senior Developer on development projects that are small to medium in size. Analyzes system problems and Guidewire features and recommends resolution. Train to become a forms expert in Doc Origins.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or software engineering preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience on Guidewire InsuranceNow application is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in Personal Lines Insurance (auto/home) is a plus.
  • Demonstrates technical competency with application development including databases, desktop applications, web applications, and data integration projects.
  • Initial knowledge of programming in JAVA, MySQL, XML, HTML.
  • Forms knowledge in Adobe Output Designer and/or Doc Origins is a big plus.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of company operations, office workflow and information technology applications within the insurance industry environment.
  • Project management skills to complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Effectively expresses ideas clearly, concisely, and logically, in both verbal and written form; clearly communicates problems and resolutions in a non-technical manner as needed.
  • Team player; establishes cooperative, positive, and professional working relationships.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with business analyst, project managers and other members of the team to analyze and refine business requirements for new features and design efficient solutions
  • Provides appropriate documentation for design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics as required by organization standards.
  • Develop and code solutions from requirement specifications and/or use cases.  
  • Defines, conducts, and/or participates in testing (i.e., unit, system integration). Participates in development walkthroughs.
  • Ensures software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security. Identifies and recommends areas for improvement in planning, design, development, and testing.
  • Learn current forms application (Adobe Output Designer) and new forms application (Doc Origins) to become subject matter expert for conversion project.
